You Will be the First to Know!

“I see a map of the United States. It’s all black. But lights are starting to appear. More and more lights all across the country and those lights are getting brighter and bigger. You are bringing those lights. You are called to spread the Light across the country. You are called to be an evangelist.”

Those words were “prophesied” by a self-proclaimed prophetess to a young lady. The young lady was excited and gladly accepted those words.

Unfortunately, she was not called to be an evangelist. And because she accepted the words from that “prophesy”, she could not see her real calling until many years later when she no longer believed "pathetic-prophetic" words.

What would have prevented her from accepting false words about her future and calling? The knowledge of the fact that God will speak to her first about His plan for her life.

True words that come to us from other people about ourselves and especially our future will bear witness in our spirits to what God has already spoken to us. Jesus said that we are His friends when we obey Him (John 15:14–15). Friends confide in each other—not to others first. God does not gossip. He does not reveal His will or knowledge about a person to someone else without telling that person first.

The key in John 15:14–15 is “if you do what I command”. When we keep His commandments, we are His friends. When we are His friends, He speaks to us first about things that concern us personally.

“God told me that you will be my husband”, a young woman once told me. We barely knew each other, but what signaled me that she missed God was that He had not said anything to me about her at all. (I gently and politely said, “I’m sorry, but God has not revealed that to me.”) Knowing that God will speak first to us can save us a lot of distractions and time.

There are many biblical examples that God speaks first to us when He wants to reveal something to us about ourselves. Here are a few:

In Genesis 12:1–3, God tells Abraham to leave his country and that He will make him a great nation, that he will be blessed, and that all nations will be blessed through him.

In Genesis 37:5–7, God gives a Joseph a glimpse of his future about his brothers bowing down to him.

In Luke 1:27–38, God sent Gabriel to Mary and told her that she was blessed and that she would conceive by the Holy Ghost and that her son would be the Son of God.

Knowing that God will speak to you first when He wants you to know things about His will for you prevents you from being deceived by anyone who would attempt to tell you falsehoods about you and your future. In fact, this method of deception is how many fall prey to the wolves in sheep's clothing that are manipulators, spiritual abusers, seducers.

It is my prayer for you that Father will continue to help you to hear His voice, and more and more frequently.

With God’s grace and in His peace,

Gary
