We Need Hearers of His Voice! Men and women that can hear God’s voice are especially helpful and valuable to other people. The following three testimonies are good examples of the blessing we can be to others as we hear God’s voice: Six Words During the time that a particular pastor’s church was growing from sixty to three hundred, his foremost personal problem was bitterness. Each Sunday, his preaching would be tainted by bitterness and to the point where he would verbally beat up his flock. On one Sunday morning, as he approached the pulpit to give his congregation another tongue-lashing, the Lord spoke to him and said, “One more time and you’re out.” The pastor put aside his prepared notes and gave a message about God’s love for them. Those simple, yet powerful six words that the Lord spoke (and that the pastor heeded!) changed his life, his ministry, and the people in his church. Soon thereafter, his church grew to over 12,000![1] A Daughter’s Dream A man was ill for over three months with numerous viruses and infections. He had lost over 25 pounds, became very weak and depressed. He nearly died three times. His once obvious zest for life was now just a faint flicker hidden inside his heart. One night, his thirteen year old daughter had a dream. She saw her father standing on the front porch looking towards the country-side. Suddenly, dropping down from the roof like a spider, a 6-foot long centipede came down and stood directly behind him. Its feet were like suction cups and began to attach to her father’s head and neck. The scene immediately changed to the daughter being inside the house, looking out the back door and seeing her father running past the door with the centipede biting into his head. She yelled, “In the name of Jesus, let him go!”. The centipede immediately fell to the ground and began to shrivel up and die. That next morning, as the daughter was telling her father of the dream, the power of God and the peace of God came and rested on him. Throughout that day, her father was enveloped with God’s presence and he was set free. Sue’s Mother A man in his 20’s visited the neighborhood where he grew up. While he was talking with a childhood friend, he noticed a teenage girl. He asked his friend who she was. The girl’s name was Sue and the last time he had seen her, she was a toddler. The attention he was giving to the conversation with his friend was interrupted by the Holy Spirit. “Go talk to her. There are things I want her to know.” Leaving his friend, he approached Sue and introduced himself. Then he began to share the words that the Holy Spirit gave him to say. He told her of God’s love for her and that He sent His Son to die for her. Then the tone and direction of the words changedthey became more serious and directed towards her mother. He told her to tell her mother about God’s love and about His Son. With great urgency and seriousness, the Holy Spirit ended the message with, “Tell your mother that God loves her, that Jesus died for her, and that he has seen her past and knows her future. God wants to be in her future. He wants to guide her life.” Then the leading from the Holy Spirit subsided and the man went back to continue conversing with his friend. Approximately two years after that day, someone broke into Sue’s house and brutally murdered her mother. God, knowing all things (including the future), wanted Sue and her mother to hear the Good News especially before the tragedy happened. Hearing God’s voice is critically important for us and our own lives. But we also need to hear God’s voice for others. Far too many people cannot hear God’s voice and perhaps just as many have difficulty hearing clearly. We can be of great help and guidance. It is my prayer for you that Father will continue to help you to hear His voice, and more and more frequently.
