Knowoledge from the Divine and the Demonic

The focus of this teaching is to reveal the fact that knowledge of things that are not otherwise known by natural means can be obtained from divine or demonic sources.

We all receive information about things that would not know through natural means. God speaks to all of us. Satan and his demons also speak to us.

There are many unsaved people that believe they have a gift of knowing certain hidden things of the present or of things that will occur in the future. They are commonly referred to as psychics, astrologers, clairvoyant, fortune-tellers and so on. Their source of information is the demonic, and even though many of them think that they are doing good, they are actually deceiving and destroying the people who believe them.

Some of these psychics are simply possessed with lying, deceiving, and seducing spirits. Other psychics, possessed with these same demons, are also gifted by God with an unusually keen ability to hear His voice. In a sense, these people are “genuine” psychics. Most likely, these psychics have a calling from God to have very powerful ministries that are known for hearing His voice and operating in gifts of the Spirit such as word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discerning of spirits, and prophesy.

But both of these types of psychics have chosen to hear demons rather than their Creator. Any information from either type of psychic is deceitful, destructive, and limited. Both God and the enemy know the past. Both God and the enemy know the present. But only God knows the future. (Actually, Satan does know part of the future—his future—that his time is short.)

How then, do some of the predictions from psychics actually come to pass? Here is an example of one method:

During World War II, a psychic accurately predicted approximately one year prior that Hitler would conquer a specific territory. How did she know? After all, it was a future event, yet Satan’s knowledge of the future is extremely limited. It’s not a difficult thing for a demonic spirit to overhear Hitler and his generals discuss the plan and date of the attack, then give that same information to someone who is receptive to familiar spirits.

Can a psychic speak actual truth? As seen in the above example, yes. There’s an example in the Bible as well. In Paul’s letter to Titus, he mentions the rebellious and deceiving Cretans and said that one of their own “prophets” (psychic) gave a true witness (Titus 1:10–13). Satan would gladly give a drop of truth in a glass-full of lies to any thirsty man.

There are also saved people that obtain hidden knowledge from the enemy. In fact, Satan prefers to use Christians as they help convince others that their message is from God. Because deception is a strong force in hearing from the enemy, these Christians deny that their source is anything but God. They need the eyes of their understanding to be enlightened through prayer and ministry from other Christians.

Whether a “psychic” is unsaved or a mis-guided Christian, we can follow Paul’s example on dealing with the spirit operating through the person:

Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved." She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her. (Acts 16:16–18)

Knowledge from evil sources brings death and destruction. Knowledge from God brings life and health.

Knowledge from evil sources do not agree with God’s Word. Knowledge from God agrees with His Word, reveals more about Him, and draws men to Him.

Knowledge from evil sources exalts a man, whereas knowledge from God gives Him alone the glory.

We choose who and from what source to listen. We choose the source of the knowledge that we accept from the spirit realm. Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)

The next teaching, Hearing Aids, pt 1: Discerning Good and Evil, continues this topic of knowledge from the divine and the demonic.

It is my prayer for you that Father will continue to help you to hear His voice, and more and more frequently.

With God’s grace and in His peace,

Gary
