Hearing God in the Midst of Adversity Sue was a secretary for frustrated, over-bearing executive. Not a day went by without Sue’s boss yelling at her or giving her a cutting criticism. Also, not a day went by without Sue excusing herself to the bathroom to cry. Sue applied for another job. Months went by with no responses to her applications. Finally, Sue came to a breaking point. She cried out to God and asked, “Why? Why, Lord, do you keep me in this hell?” She heard God’s voice, “Why are you upset?” Stunned, she said, “My boss says the most hurtful things to me!” She again heard God’s voice, “The next time you hurt, ask me why you hurt.” The next day, after preparing a report, her boss told her she was incompetent and couldn’t spell. That familiar pain hit Sue again. But, this time she asked God why she hurt. God took her to a time when she was a child and her father yelled and berated her for a bad report card, making her feel unloved and stupid. Sue understood that she still had a wound from that experience and that her boss’s remark rubbed salt in that wound. She asked for healing and Father healed her. The next time her boss yelled at her for the same reason, Sue felt no pain and just continued working. Months went by, and with God’s help, Sue learned about more wounds that needed and received healing. One day, nothing her boss said or did could upset her. In fact, her boss noticed that and he himself became upset and frustrated that he was no longer upsetting Sue! It was time. The time had come for Sue to move on and another job was offered to her. God let her stay in that hostile environment so that she could see her need for hearing His voice and healing her wounds. After all of the healing that God wanted to perform in her, then God opened another door. It is my prayer for you that Father will continue to help you to hear His voice, and more and more frequently.
