Hearing and Intercessory Prayer

God is the same today, yesterday, and forever. When we read about an aspect of His character in the Bible, we can be assured that He will be the same towards us as He was to His servants thousands of years ago.

One aspect of God that is seen in the Old Testament and in the New Testament is His desire to reveal hidden things to His servants that pray earnestly for others.

Daniel (chapter 9) understood a prophesy given by Jeremiah about the years of captivity and he understood that the end of that time was nearing. Daniel immediately repented for all of Israel and asked for God’s forgiveness for all of Israel . At the end of his prayer, Gabriel appeared to him and said, “He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed.” (v.22, 23a NIV). As soon as Daniel began his intercessory prayer, the answer was given and an angel was sent to Daniel to reveal to him the answer to his prayer.

Likewise, the Apostle Paul, prayed fervently for the church, and especially for those believers to whom he wrote his epistles (for example: Ro. 1:10, 2 Cor. 13:7, Eph. 3:16–17, Phil. 1:4). By the same principle that God gave Daniel understanding about His purpose for those Daniel prayed for, the Holy Spirit spoke to Paul and gave him understanding and insight about those that he interceded for—his epistles were inspired by the Holy Spirit to give each of those churches a specific message.

When we pray for someone else, we should expect Father to reveal something to us. It is His will that our prayers be as precise and effective as possible—with rifle-like accuracy rather than like a shotgun.

For example, a friend asked for prayer as his soul was under a very strong attack. As I prayed for him, in my spirit I saw his mother praying for him. But the word “WRONG” flashed over this vision of his mother. When I told him what the Lord showed me, he said that his mother was involved with a cult and that she often prays for him. Together, we broke the power of her demonically-inspired prayers and the oppression lifted off of my friend.

If you want to hear Father’s voice, pray for other people!

It is my prayer for you that Father will continue to help you to hear His voice, and more and more frequently.
